Monday, December 14, 2009 Crushers Ace Becomes a Blue Crab |
Avon, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers announce today that they have sold the rights of starting pitcher Paul Fagan to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League.
Fagan was the Crushers ace in the rotation last season, leading the Frontier League in regular season wins with 14. A dominating force on the mound, Fagan started 20 games for the Crushers, recording 83 strikeouts and only 33 walks in 140 innings. His consistent performance throughout the season earned him a spot on the Frontier League All-Star Team and at the end of the season he was recognized with the Brian Tollberg award which is presented annually to the League’s top pitcher.
"Paul moving on to the Atlantic league may not be in the Crushers best interest, because we would love to have him back, but it is in the best interest for Paul as it gives him an opportunity to pitch in a league that is generally considered the highest level of Independent baseball,” said Field Manager John Massarelli. “The consensus among Scouts is that the Atlantic league plays at a ‘AAA’ caliber. This will give Paul a great opportunity to pitch against players with Major League experience."
“I want to thank John Massarelli for providing me the opportunity to play for the Crushers this past summer,” said Fagan. “More importantly though, I want to thank the Crushers fans who supported us from Opening Day until the final out of our Frontier League Championship. It was truly a memorable season which I will always remember fondly.”
The Lake Erie Crushers, the 2009 Frontier League Champions, play ball at All Pro Freight Stadium, a 5,000 capacity stadium located in Avon, OH. Beginning in 2010, All Pro Freight Stadium will also be home to the Cleveland State University baseball team. The Frontier League is an independent baseball league with 12 teams operating throughout the Midwest. Season tickets for the 2010 season are on sale now!
