Avon, Oh - Second baseman Drew Saylor has agreed to a second season with the Lake Erie Crushers. The Wadsworth, OH native was an important part of the Crushers 2009 Frontier League Championship season, putting up impressive numbers both at the plate and in the field. Batting second in the line-up for a majority of the season, Saylor hit .302 in 92 games played. He scored 70 runs, recorded 115 hits, 62 RBI, ten homeruns and led the team in doubles with 26. Covering second, he posted a .984 fielding percentage and assisted on 64 double plays, making him and shortstop Jodam Rivera one of the most dangerous defensive combinations in the league. "Drew is one of the best second baseman in league,” said field manager John Massarelli. “He provides us with solid leadership on the field and in the clubhouse, has great instincts for the game and is a solid run producer in the middle of our lineup." Saylor was drafted in the 13th round by the Florida Marlins organization in 2006 after a successful collegiate career. In his senior season at Kent State University, he earned 1st Team All-Mid Atlantic Conference honors and was named a 1st Team All-American by Louisville Slugger and Collegiate Baseball Magazine. He played one season in the Marlins farm system for the Jamestown Jammers (2006) and one season with the Greeneville Astros (2007) before being sidelined with injury. In 2008, he played for the Chillicothe Paints in the Frontier League. Following the Crushers' championship season, Saylor joined the Cleveland State University baseball staff as a volunteer coach. He has also continued to represent the Crushers at events and appearances throughout the community. The Lake Erie Crushers, the 2009 Frontier League Champions, play ball at All Pro Freight Stadium, a 5,000 capacity stadium located in Avon, OH. Beginning in 2010, All Pro Freight Stadium will also be home to the Cleveland State University baseball team. The Frontier League is an independent baseball league with 12 teams operating throughout the Midwest. Season tickets for the 2010 season are on sale now!
