Adopt-A-Crusher

Avon, Oh - Love baseball? Ever wondered what the life of a professional player is like? The Lake Erie Crushers are looking for local families who are willing to open their homes and their families to house a player for the 2010 season.

More than 35 players, some returning from last season, as well as some new faces, will be arriving in Avon at the beginning of May and will need a place to stay for the season. Host families are an important part of professional baseball and offer a unique and memorable experience for the families and players.

“Host families see a side of professional baseball that most fans never have a chance to experience,” explains General Manager Ryan Gates. “Families have the opportunity to live and understand the daily grind and lifestyle of an elite athlete, seeing both the highs and lows that come with playing ball at this level. Many families and their players build memories and bonds that last not just a season but a lifetime.”

The team looks for families that have an extra bedroom or living space for a player. Although meals are not required, access to the pantry when the player is home is always appreciated. Due to the team’s travel schedule, distance to the ballpark is also taken into consideration when placing players. In addition to the living arrangements and distance, the team also tries to match players and families based on similar interests and personalities.

In exchange for opening their homes, host families receive two tickets vouchers per game, a parking pass, recognition at the ballpark and an invitation to special host family events.

The Crushers will host an informational meeting for new families on Tuesday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the club house at All Pro Freight Stadium. Past host families and current player Drew Saylor will be in attendance to share their own experiences and to answer any questions. Families interested in attending should contact Nicolle Meyer at 440-934-3636 or nmeyer@lakeeriecrushers.com.

The Lake Erie Crushers, the 2009 Frontier League Champions, play ball at All Pro Freight Stadium, a 5,000 capacity stadium located in Avon, OH. Beginning in 2010, All Pro Freight Stadium will also be home to the Cleveland State University baseball team. The Frontier League is an independent baseball league with 12 teams operating throughout the Midwest. Season tickets for the 2010 season are on sale now!
