Mother Ginger Back To Play Right Field

Avon, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers are pleased to announce the return of outfielder Arden McWilliams and catcher Brad Griffiths for the 2010 Season.

McWilliams, a Shaker Heights native, started the 2009 season at first base for the Crushers before moving to right field for a majority of the season. A consistent presence in the starting line-up, McWilliams batted .257 in 84 games played. He also recorded 51 runs, 74 hits, seven doubles, three triples, 12 homeruns and 51 RBI.

An all-round team player, this off-season McWilliams moved from right field to center stage as Mother Ginger in Ohio Dance Theatres’ annual production of the Nutcracker at Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Performing Arts Center.

Field Manager John Massarelli is appreciative of McWilliams performance in the holiday classic, although he is looking forward to getting his outfielder out of drag and back into the Crushers’ pinstripes for the 2010 season, “Solid rookie year for Arden. We hope Broadway doesn’t take him away from us and he can continue his development as a professional baseball player.”

Griffiths has also signed a contract extension with the Crushers for the upcoming season. The rookie out of Lee University shared catching duties with Nick Maragas last season. In 66 games played, he batted .218 with 19 runs, 41 hits, three doubles, one homerun and 24 RBI.

“Griffiths will battle Maragas and Julio Rivera for the starting catching job,” said Massarelli.

The Lake Erie Crushers, the 2009 Frontier League Champions, play ball at All Pro Freight Stadium located in Avon, OH. Beginning in 2010, All Pro Freight Stadium will also be home to the Cleveland State University baseball team. The Frontier League is an independent baseball league with 12 teams operating throughout the Midwest. Season tickets for the 2010 season are on sale now!
