AVON, Ohio — The Lake Erie Crushers are pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Curt Ickes, Associate Professor of Psychology at Ashland University, as a Player Development Specialist.

Dr. Ickes currently teaches the clinical and sport psychology courses at Ashland University as well as maintaining a private practice. He earned an undergraduate degree at Ashland College before receiving graduate degrees from the University of Akron and Kent State University.

Dr. Ickes brings to the table a wealth of experience in the field of sport psychology. He has worked with the Ashland University baseball and softball teams, the College of Wooster baseball team and the Hillsdale High School baseball and softball teams. His book, Mental Toughness: Getting the Edge was published in March - 2010.

Dr. Ickes’s specialty is the study and application of psychological factors that lead to optimal athletic performance. His work focuses on developing mentally tough personality attitudes and traits, as well as improving maximum focus and preparation for each individual pitch.

“Dr. Ickes gives our players an opportunity to develop the mental skills necessary to compete at the highest levels of baseball,” Crushers manager John Massarelli said. “His teaching ability can give our players a competitive advantage that helps them reach their true potential.”

The Lake Erie Crushers, the 2009 Frontier League Champions, play ball at All Pro Freight Stadium located in Avon, OH. Beginning in 2010, All Pro Freight Stadium will also be home to the Cleveland State University baseball team.
