#36 Chris Mongiardo - Field Manager

Chris Mongiardo is the Lake Erie Crushers Field Manager in 2014, his first season at the helm.

Mongiardo, simply known as “Monge” in the baseball world, has coached in the Frontier League for seven seasons. He started in the Frontier League in 2001 with the Richmond Roosters as the bench coach where he was a part of back-to-back championship teams in 2001 and 2002. He then managed the Roosters during their final three seasons of existence. Last season, Mongiardo was the Crushers’ Pitching Coach, leading the best pitching staff the Crushers have had in the team’s five year history.

Mongiardo, a Willowick, Ohio, native, graduated from Kent State University while playing baseball for the Golden Flashes. Being a native Clevelander, he looks forward to getting involved in the surrounding communities and building the new Lake Erie Crushers youth baseball and softball academy.

“I would like to thank Steven Edelson and the Lake Erie Crushers organization for giving me this opportunity to work for what I truly believe is the best organization in all of Independent baseball,” stated the new manager. “I believe we will finish what we started last season and bring back a second championship to Avon.

Mongiardo will be an asset to the players, community and staff during the 2014 season. “The organization is lucky to have Chris at the helm,” said Edelson. “He had a tremendous amount to do with our success last year and we support him in finishing the job this coming season.”

#34 Joe Charboneau- Hitting Coach

More than 30 years after taking Cleveland and the baseball world by a storm, Joe Charboneau is returning to Northeastern Ohio in a different role. Charboneau, the 1980 American League Rookie of the Year as a member of the Cleveland Indians, will be the new hitting instructor for the Lake Erie Crushers this season.

Known by many as “Super Joe”, Charboneau batted .289 with 23 home runs and 87 runs batted in during his rookie season with the Indians. Super Joe played in 201 career games with Cleveland over the course of three seasons.

Charboneau has been involved with the Frontier league for more than a decade. He got his start as a hitting instructor with the Canton Crocodiles in 1999 and has also had stints with the Richmond Roosters, Washington Wild Things, Windy City Thunderbolts, and Chillicothe Paints. He most recently spent parts of the last three summers as a hitting coach for the Lorain County Ironmen, a summer college team in the Prospect League.
