Shaffer, a 2011 Frontier League All Star Catcher, joins the Crushers after two record breaking seasons with Cleveland State University.

In 2009 and 2010, Shaffer made 89 starts in 102 appearances during his two-year CSU career, finishing with 115 hits in 374 at bats for a .307 average. In his senior season Shaffer hit the second-most RBI in a season (59), recorded the second-most at-bats (232) and finished with the third-most hits (78). Shaffer also led the team with 44 runs scored.

In the 2010 season, Shaffer put together the fourth-longest hitting streak in school history, tallying at least one base hit in 18 consecutive games from April 6-April 30.
