AVON, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy Health, used the combination of Jared Koenig, Augie Gallardo, Dalton Geekie, Seth Lucio and Logan Lombana to toss a four hit shutout, as they defeated the Evansville Otters, 1-0 on Tuesday evening at Sprenger Healthcare Stadium.
The Crushers (36-29) have now won six out of their last seven games at home, while the loss for the Otters (38-28) snapped a three game winning streak.
Koenig (5-1) tossed five scoreless innings, and allowed just three hits while walking four and striking out seven to defeat the Otters for the second time this season.
The lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the first inning. Aaron Hill belted a double to the gap in right center to start the inning. After Brandyn Sittinger (0-1) retired the next two batters, Dale Burdick smacked a two out, run scoring single to left, brining Hill home for the game's only run.
Evansville had plenty of chances to score, but never cashed in. They had at least one base runner in the first seven innings of the contest. They had the bases loaded with one out in the fifth inning when Koenig struck out Keith Grieshaber and Ryan Long to end the inning.
An inning later, Carlos Castro was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and he made his way to third on a single from Elijah MacNamee. Castro later stole second, but with runners on second and third and nobody out, Gallardo fanned three straight to end the inning.
Geekie tossed a scoreless seventh before Lucio tossed a perfect eighth inning. Lombana (6) worked a 1-2-3 ninth to score the save.
Burdick and Brody Wofford led the way for the Crushers offensively, as they both went 2-for-4 on the night. Wofford has now reached in seven straight games, and Steven Kraft went 1-for-3, extending his on base streak to 22 games.
The Crushers will continue their three game series with the Evansville Otters at Sprenger Stadium on Wednesday morning. Righty David LeMasters (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Crushers. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:05 AM.
