Crushers End Longest Road Trip of 2026 in Defeat

Augusta, NJ - August 2, 2026 - The Lake Erie Crushers (29-43) were swept for just the third time on Sunday, this time at the hand of the Sussex County Miners (35-36), who finished off Lake Erie with a 10-1 win.

The Miners got on the board first in the 2nd inning on a couple of productive outs from the back end of their lineup. Their 2-0 lead would stay put until the 4th when RHP Justin Mays ran into some trouble with the same part of the lineup. Run-producing hits from 3B Dean Ferrara and C Keenan O’Brien made it a 5-0 Miners lead after four innings.

They did more damage in the 5th, again with Ferrara and O’Brien, who accounted for eight RBIs on Sunday afternoon, and the 9-0 lead put the game away early.

The Crushers’ lone run came on a 7th inning RBI single from 3B Pavin Parks, but even then the Miners responded with a solo home run by 1B Mahki Backstrom in the bottom half to make the score 10-1.

In relief, the Crushers got scoreless outings from LHP Cobe Reeves and RHP Christian Scafidi, but the end score was 10-1 Miners as they completed the sweep on Sunday.

The longest road trip of the season has come to an end, and the Crushers will be returning home on Tuesday, August 4th to start a six-game homestand.
