It was a good ol’ fashioned pitchers duel through the first three innings. RHP Alex Garbrick and Bird Dawgs’ starter LHP Jace Miner were nearly perfect in their scoreless opens.

Down East DH Jacob Corson (the former Crusher) started the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the 4th. Los Loros were able to get out of the inning with a double play to hold the Bird Dawgs to just a 1-0 lead.

In the 5th, CF Stephen DiTomaso plated two more runs on a single through the drawn-in infield to extend Down East’s lead to 3-0.

A sacrifice fly from C Tyler Blaum in the 6th made it three straight innings with a run scored for Down East. They’d add on another against Garbrick on a two-out RBI single by 2B Kenny Levari to chase him from the game. DiTomaso added on another two RBIs with a triple a few moments later, and the Bird Dawgs led 7-0.

Los Loros got on the board in the bottom of the 6th on an RBI fielder’s choice from RF James Jett. 3B Chayton Krauss popped a ground-rule double over the wall to drive in another run. Lake Erie had two men in scoring position from that point but couldn’t do any more damage. After six innings, the score was 7-2 Bird Dawgs.

LHP Kenny Pierson held the line with two scoreless innings in relief, but the Loros bats couldn’t push any more runs across. They fell 7-2 to open the big weekend series.

LHP Jace Miner (1-3) got the win, and despite his hot start, Alex Garbrick (0-4) was pinned with the loss.
