Nixon Homers in Debut, Crushers Fall to Mississippi
Avon, OH - August 5, 2026 - The Lake Erie Crushers (30-44) got some early offensive noise from one of their latest roster additions on Wednesday afternoon at ForeFront Field, but they ultimately fell 10-4 to the Mississippi Mud Monsters (30-43).
Unlike Tuesday night, the offense started right away for both teams. In the top of the 1st, the Mud Monsters plated a run on a jam-shot bloop single by C Tevis Payne, but in the home-half, RF Chase Nixon (who was making his Crushers debut) launched a solo home run to make it 1-1 a piece.
Both sides went pound for pound in the 2nd inning as well. Mississippi scored a pair of runs in their half of the inning, but the Crushers responded with an RBI double from LF Samuel Benjamin and a hard-fought single from C Derek Vegas. After two innings, the game was knotted up 3-3.
Both starting pitchers settled down after that. Crushers’ LHP Edwin Sanchez and Monsters’ RHP Sergio Sanchez dueled it out into the 6th, but the Mud Monsters got three runs on a collection of Lake Erie errors to take a 6-3 lead.
Mississippi scratched across another run in the 7th after a couple of walks to lead 7-3. Lake Erie got back on the board in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch, trailing 7-4 into the late innings.
The Mud Monsters continued their push in the final frames, scoring an additional run in the 8th and two in the 9th against the Crushers bullpen. At the end of the bout, the Mud Monsters finished the 10-4 win and evened up the series heading into Thursday.
The Crushers will try to win the series at home against the Mud Monsters on a Thirsty Thursday at ForeFront Field. First pitch is at 6:30pm, and fans can enjoy $2.50 select drafts all night long from the moment the gates open at 5:30pm.
